Question 1.8T In-Tank Fuel Pump and Filter Question.

May need to replace both the In-Tank Fuel Pump and Filter Assembly on one of my ZT 1.8Ts.

How difficult/easy is this job and what pitfalls should one have in mind to avoid ?

I plan to remove the complete assembly from a scrap yard car so that should provide a good first learning curve,

Any pointers and advice here greatly appreciated.

Mini cooper S filter element is the same, but the larger O ring is a different size...

Turbo pump is very different to the other petrol ones, they have an external sock, the turbo one has a flat one in the bottom of the pump

It all disconnects very simply, and once you look at it at work it out, it makes perfect sense

Take photos of every part at each stage of removal. Relying on memory for the reassemby doesn't always pay off, especially in unfamiliar territory. And remember to post them/HowTo. There's precious little practical info about the way everything fits. Get some images of the mysterious 'lower bits' that apparently sit in the tank bottom. Are these anchored down or free floating? From what I've read so far, these could be parts that people have simply left unfitted after attempting a similar job. Orientating the float arms correctly seems to be a problem area. If the floats aren't totally free, the fuel gauge goes erratic.
