Rear disc hot again!
Well, after having my discs and pads replaced a few weeks ago to cure the overheating disc/wheel, it has started again today!
Got out of the car and thought someone was having a strange smelling barbecue...then noticed the smoke from the rear. Time to get her booked into another garage for a look... |

Back in my motorcycling days I used to get that so regularly I made a gizmo that fitted on a foot pump for blowing the pistons out.

Thanks for the replies.
Any suggestions on suppliers/brands of calipers? I've seen prices ranging from £20 to £160 a side... I've also seen the repair kits on ebay for about £20 - are these any good? |

Brake calipers are not worth messing around with, better in the long run to simply replace it. You will get one at a reasonable price from any good motor factors.

Got the caliper sorted yesterday at another local-ish garage - after the first garage I went to said there was nothing wrong with it...
They showed me the one they took off that had been overheating, and it was in a terrible state, the piston wouldn't push in all the way due to rust. So my wallet is a little lighter, but at least the problem is now sorted. Glad to be back in the ZT after a week of driving our Corsa.....and the Focus I bought at the weekend as a spare just in case the ZT is off the road again. There was a lovely TF in the garage (apparently a local MG enthusiasts), in grey - looked immaculate - if only I had more room, would love one! |

I don't want to rain on your parade, but the crumbly calliper may be as a result of the overheating, not the cause of it....
It has been known, and I've seen it myself, for the flexi hose to become restrictive, to the point it only allows flow one way, stopping the piston retracting, thereby causing the overheating issue. Hopefully not, in your case, but keep an ey on just in case. |

My Mk3 Festa was the same - one of the brake flexi's became a one-way valve and would randomly stick 'on'.
