Brake hose spanner size
Anyone know 100% what the original size of the flats on the OE rubber brake hoses to caliper is?
Hard to tell if 15mm or 16mm with the corrosion, or whether they are some imperial size? |

just checked a calliper and 16mm.
I'd be very surprised if imperial although 5/8 may do 5/8 what, I don't know, I assume AF (Across Flats). macafee2 |

Great stuff, cheers.
I see the union nut is 11mm, another odd size to me. |

Iif you consider such sizes are not in your average DIY tool set/kit, maybe to restrict your average DIYer messing with safety critical items, or a security pentalobe screw on the immobiliser unit. Just a thought?

Just changed my front calipers and used a 5/8 flare spanner on the caliper end of hose. Nice tight fit

Obviously if the item is corroded you simply find the best fit spanner that you own. Being quoted the original size doesn't help at all in this case as it will be a rotten fit.---

Its just the rear unions to calipers which were caked, all other unions and fronts are "ok", but will be replacing all the flexi hoses anyway when fitting a freshly refurbished 190 setup on this car. Got a set of stainless ARB mounts too, so after all this work, the underside of the car should be almost fully corrosion resistant at least until horrible diesels get rightly banned off the roads! Whoever owns the car after me, will get one hell of a restored vehicle. Got the brakes refurbed in Premium silver by Biggred, should look nice and OE, and provide proper stopping power, but I hate diesels that much, I might go for a 260 Estate for a bit, but none around at the moment.
