John, Brian, I kinda fall between the two of you. Deltics were still on the go when I started on the footplate. Never worked them as a driver but a couple of times I was sent to cover a crew shortage as a 2nd man at the depot other side of Edinburgh that did. Brilliant locos but the steam heating boiler was a PITA, positioned between the two engines, noise in the engine room was unbelievable, no issued ear protection in those days!

I fitted this for a local member today, pleasantly surprised with the quality of the components, and a lovely stable temperature once fitted.
I can recommend Kaisers stats to anyone thinking of fitting one.

And for John, 55 022 dragging alumina from Blyth to Lynemouth........a sight and sound not to forget, especially given the proximity to the track

New engine mount fitted by Lates.
No more 'clunking' sensation. Started to fit my underseat subwoofer, but spent more time scratching my head looking at wiring than fitting anything... |

The sum total of nothing...
MOT due next week so giving a check over and found n/s number plate lamp out, changed the bulb but still not working so looks like I'm going to have to dismantle the lamp and look at the circuit board. Does the circuit board assembly come out without having to remove the complete lip spoiler? Also, brake pad warning light has been on for a while so had a new sensor to fit, only to find it's not the correct one. Checked the number on Euro parts website and either it's the wrong part number or it's the wrong item in the pack. |

All I did with mine today was to push it back further down the drive as it's dead.
Need space for my replacement (non-rover) that I pick up tomorrow.

Jobs actually completed: Fitted new centre hub to turbo, did the alloy manifold conversion, shortened a hose which was rubbing on the rad, replaced droplinks.
New surprise(!!) jobs found: ex. manifold gasket has a bit missing, idler pulley growly, an alternator bearing rough, alternator long bolt dropped out and the sliding bush gone oval, cambelt rear cover has broken lug and lower cover is in two pieces, turbo-to-downpipe stud missing, two undertray fixings missing, bad rust behind wheel arch liner and a nice fillet of mud, chaffed wiring from the post-cat sensor, rather high idling speed, double-bite when declutching... One step forward |
