Default Whining/Whirring noise on turning wheel

Hi all,

I've been noticing a whine while driving for a while now - it is mostly noticeable when going round roundabouts.

Today while looking for a coolant leak with the engine running, I turned the wheel a little and noticed the whine. I found that at idle it is noticeable but not that loud, when holding revs at 1500-2000 the noise is very loud - coming from drivers side.

The noise goes away with no load on steering.

Tried to video it but audio on phone seems a little distorted - very short clip below:

Any ideas?

There is fluid in steering pump reservoir. My son thought it was coming from alternator area.

I would look at the power steering belt as you get the sound when the wheel is in play.

Have you checked the fluid level on the power steering?

Hi,

I'll get Lates to have a look when it goes in for thermostat.

Thanks.
