What I did with my Rover 75/MG ZT today? - Page 1081

Not strictly 'today', but on Saturday I managed to spill a large thermos of milky coffee all over my passenger footwell. Delightful. I have showered and shampooed the mat several times and it still smells. The carpet still smells, and feels a touch damp despite my hair-dryering it for a while. Grr!

Back in the day I was working in a dairy in Shepherds Bush where they had a catering size bag-in-box line. A chap took a big bag of milk without the box and put it in the back of his estate car, and it must have caught on a sharp edge and split with milk going everywhere.

Back in my teens I was driving my Dad's Chevy Nova (The big American version) and T-boned a poor fellow in a Rambler American at an intersection.
The fact that those old American cars were so sturdy saved us both from injury but didn't save the six glass bottles of milk that were riding in his front passenger seat!

Exhaust repaired - a piece of mild steel pipe joining the stainless backbox to the original centre pipe had rusted badly, leaving the back box bouncing around, though still hanging on - on the upside it did seem to massively reduce the drone I suffer with the stainless back box...

All solid again now, new piece of stainless welded in - drone fully reinstated

To do list is now reduced to:
Thermostat replacement
Cooling fan replacement
Steering pump/belt/pully noise to be investigated
Airbag light on - passenger seat related
Aircon leak to be checked
Roof, rear driver-side panel, spoiler, boot lid respray/clearcoat fix.
Alloy wheel refurb all round
Remove YMCA.mp3 from sdcard in head unit, which shuffle mode seems to keep finding somewhere

Well it couldn’t last, strong vibration at 70-80mph so went to get wheels balanced/checked for straightness while up on ramp at tame mechanics he noticed front wheel bearing had loads of play (but no noise) replacement ordered on the spot, then I spotted turbo oil seals leaking badly new Turbo ordered from Trikey and finally strange engine noise traced to cam pulley wobbling so ordered one of those from Trikey too. Auto box oil leak also noted and possible steering rack leak at which point I told him to stop looking and put her back on the ground! Guess I’m going to be real busy on Saterday fitting all the replacement parts. We never got to check the wheels!

Made a really, really good job of removing the handbrake lining on the rear left of the car. Went back to the MOT place only to find out he meant the brake disc needed replacing.-

Spilt milk disaster - I'm sure someone has already told you this but - fan heater in the car to dry off then large bag of bicarbonate of soda scattered over affected area - leave it as long as you can (overnight?) and then hoover up Bicarb - as it goes, so does the smell

Yeah, used the bicarb before. My missus managed to spill milk in her Rover 25 some years ago, and it stank. A few applications of bicarb and vacuuming got it sorted. I given the 75 one dose, but now run out of bicarb - oops! Mind you, the initial smell has gone, but if sniff it up close, I can still smell coffee!

In more positive news: An MOT pass, so that almost makes up for the milky coffee incident and the broken door card...

I had to put my battery on charge for the first time today in five years, not bad I guest considering the car doesn't get driven much, and when it does its only short journeys.

I wonder if it will hold a charge?
