Simon, we had spoken about this via PM, and honestly I think that your handling it very well. Now make the best of it, and enjoy it going forwards!

I know mines coming up VERY shortly again, and whilst I feel fine, the idea of taking that drink that turns my rear end into a pebble dashing device is not something i'm looking forward too!

It the problems caused by the the liver condition starting to surface are the biggest pain.

As has been said the preparation drinks are HORRIBLE.
Apart from the after effects drinking 2 litres of oily salty, slightly lemony flavoured water is not a pleasant experience

Had my bowel inspected a couple of years ago. Yes, all rather weird and feels very strange but not really uncomfortable.

Sounds like I got a better deal as my cleaning out was from the bottom up, not top down so no nasty tastes etc. Similar results though .

There's no record of any sort of bowel cancer in the family, so I wasn't too surprised that they didn't find anything.

But always worth getting this sort of stuff checked out.

Simon, many thanks for posting to get the topic opened up for discussion/information/awareness.

Keep healthy.

Very wise words and sound advice Simon, thank you for sharing what must have been a traumatic time for you .

I got my first bowel testing kit a couple of years ago, and wasn't going to bother, but thankfully my wife insisted I do the test. All was well in my case, and I had the same result with the latest test a month or so back. Well worth doing for peace of mind.

Thanks again Simon.

I've been on a 5 yearly colonoscopy watch since turning sixty (that's now about 15 years) and for the past 5 years on a six months PSA watch following some unusual kidney/bladder hiccups but pleased to say I'm perfectly healthy and (apart from the C-19 induced restrictions) still refereeing rugby matches on a regular basis.
I'm very gratful to the University of Manchester NHS Wythenshaw Hospital Trust for keeping me safe and well since 5 1/2 years ago they also diagnosed a narrowing of my decending lateral aorta and fixed that pretty damned quickly too.
Too right - be aware, prostate cancer is now becoming a major fatal disease for us blokes if left undetected and bowel cancer is not far away from a major concern for many adults over 50

Good for you.

There must be a massive amount of, as yet, undiscovered natural "resistance" to all sorts of illnesses etc. because we all know folks who don't do all the "healthy" stuff yet live to a ripe old age without any particular problems, yet there's the flip side of apparently fit and healthy people who drop dead or have long, dreadful illnesses.

Enjoy life, it's precious.

5 years ago, my younger brother was diagnosed with stage 4 Prostate cancer. He had surgery and 35 radiations to treat it. Then 12 months ago he had a PET scan in Oxford, which showed it had spread to his bones, but the cancer is slow growing and he is now on a monthly injection of hormones, keeping the spread at bay. He is not in any pain and works at a police call centre in the uk directing emergency and routine calls from the public.

2 years ago, I was admitted into hospital for passing blood per rectum, vomiting blood and shortness of breath. That week I had a Colonoscopy, an Endoscopy, lots of scans and a lung biopsy. A chest CT scan found a collapsed lung and several nodes in the right lung. Recovery from the stomach ulcer took several months and the collapsed lung recovered without treatment. The nodes in the lung will need to be monitored with a CT chest scan once a year. The consultant told me to keep active and to have as much sex as I can get, how generous of him. I should be so lucky!

If you were to see me now, I look extremely well and really do count my blessings

Last week a Kenyan gentlemen passed away at the age of 149, quite an achievement, despite living in a 3rd world country.

Colvert in comparison your still a young’un

No, I can assure you he didn't. There is obviously a problem with the paperwork.

Nobody in recorded history has exceeded the age of 125 years.
