Alan, can you get at the "far end" of the check strap this way? Mine is REALLY bad - like if you open the door fully, it's almost impossible to close again...

And what do people do about the door membrane thingies? I always manage to destroy them when I try this kind of stunt, but maybe that's just me

Is there a good technique for removing and replacing them?

Cheers
Roger

Hi Roger,

I hope you and Sandra are well.

The far end, I cannot recall, but when I was lubing them up, I sprayed the check straps with a spray grease with a straw attached, and that seemed to do it - Make sure your windows are up! (they need doing again, but have lost a bit of interest - but it will bounce back lol)

When I installed the speakers and sound deadening, I sprayed and smeared everything that slid, rotated or moved.

As far as the shredder goes, all mine seemed to have been removed previously, as they were all damaged, with the driver's replaced with a badly cut item from a sheet (it was repaired at a bodyshop within a month of me buying it). However, if yours are good, or you want to try to preserve it, I would use a blade, starting at the top to prise the mastic from the door. Then just peel from the top first and down each vertical side to allow gravity to let it fall down. I think it is stuck somewhere in the centre too, so watch for this.

Thanks a lot for that Alan - will give it a go when I can get motivated. Sandra & I surviving so far thanks! Spent the last couple of days ferrying various... difficult... people around for her daughter's wedding, and every time I arrived to pick somebody up, I'd look them straight in the eye and say "Please don't use THAT door, as it's broken."

They either ignored me completely or stared blankly as they wrenched it open, followed by "There's samfink wrong wiv it mate, it won't close"... I could have killed, but there were far too many witnesses.

On the up side, everybody was very complimentary about how the black Rover performed as the wedding limo

Mod the door handle---with 240 volts.--

As previously posted. You really need to SPRAY some oil in with the plastic tube extension that normally comes with the pressure can.---

Done it, and with results already Of course, the plastic tube fell off and down inside the door, but that's a small price to pay...
