Ey up! Big Brother's coming to Bolton
"New technology aimed at detecting whether cars are polluting will be installed at 76 ANPR camera locations ahead of a new Clean Air Zone in Bolton. The new report shows 20 camera sites will be fitted with new replacement structures." https://www.express.co.uk/life-style...chester-bolton

Follows on from Brum.
Guess what? I used to go "into town" for some stuff but now will happily find somewhere else to spend my money. It'll be fascinating to look back in, say, 10 years time and see what's happened. And who do they think is going to bear the costs for vans & good vehicles? Surely those business will simply add on the costs? Creating a spiral of additional costs. Time will tell. |

There's one thing I fail to understand about the logic of some of the proposed restrictions by some authorities including Bradford where I live.
Charges are to be placed on polluting buses, lorries, vans and taxis but not privately owned cars. Private cars are the largest users of city center roads and in Bradford a high number are old polluting vehicles. If they want to reduce the numbers of vehicles travelling and polluting the cities why are these not included. I know the arguments of increased costs to the private motorists and hitting us hard, but it does not encourage people to move from using them to go by buss or taxi, which will inevitably cost more due to the charges on them. It just does not make sense, unless of course the object isn't to reduce pollution and improve residents health etc. but just another tax to generate income for the cash strapped councils. |

Blimey! The Mayor of Greater Manchester Any Burnham is calling for the local (SRN) Strategic road Network) to be included in greater Manchester's CAZ's including the M6 that passes through Wigan & the M602 that slices through Salford, Other notable main roads in the area include the A580 East Lancs rd & the A575 in Worsley.
https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/fle...ll-major-roads They've already had an extension approved to tackle the trans-pennine traffic on the A57 & A628 Woodhead pass & Snake pass which will carry the same restrictions for older lorries as the city centre CAZ and non compliant vehicles will have to go the long way around using the M62

So the answer for "polluting" vehicles is to make them go further, or pay a charge. I wonder which one they'll go for - assuming they can't just pass the charge on to someone else? .

Think for the proposal for Edinburgh is that I would be fined for entering the Zone which for me is either going to my Mental Health Support Group, Work and occasionally dropping my Mother in Law at the Bus Station.
On the occasions I have to I will borrow the wife's car!

LOL. They've already paused the Greater Manchester CAZ which Wigan falls under......Surprise surprise because there's not enough affordable electric cars/vans/trucks on the market yet, I think every man & his dog could have told em that.
