You need to take a reality check.

Good evening sir (this is the returning me - a reformed character! )

To be honest, the NHS bit probably is wishful thinking, but one must dream in order to progress.

I am perfectly happy as long as funds are collected - after all who does not take great pleasure from seeing an Audi driver being stopped for speeding (or any other reason for that matter!)

The occasions Ive been done Im more annoyed at my lack of observation than anything else, except for one, where a 40mph sign was followed by a 30mph sigh about 50 yards on and down a steep hill so inertia alone acted agaist you. I paid up and was niggled. There was a strange end to this incident, about 2years later I got a letter saying the points were scrubbed and the £60 refunded! Because there was a error inthe measurement of some sign about 2miles further down the road!. Work that one out! Chris.S.

Good point, the insurance aspect of these situations is just a scam. Chris S.

Speed signs above 30mph used to have to placed a certain minimum number of yards apart to be valid. I cannot rem the distance, but as an example, say it was 100 yds, and one sign (of perhaps 20 signs) was 105 with the subsequent ones being 100, all beyond the 105 yard one would be invalid. I believe after that, the national speed limit (for the type of road) would be permissible.

At 30mph, I believe only one sign on entry to the 30mph zone wa required.

I cannot recall the source for this, but it may have been auto Express in print around 2000.

For some odd reason AFAIK the 30mph one cannot legally be repeated

So the one limit that you'd really like to be reminded about is the one "they" CAN'T put repeaters up for .

Here you go.....

I think the original thinking many years ago was if you are in an obviously "built up area" its always 30mph unless its a 40mph when it will be shown with repeaters and will have street lighting- so we dont get confused!!! ChriS S.

So if you aren't it a built up area how do you tell the speed limits the A roads where I live are mostly 30mph 40 in places if you are lucky ,there are open fields as far as you can see the odd dwelling no street lights this road use to be a 60 mph road until you approach the villages then 40 into a 30 now gradually it's been reduced to a 30 -40 mph road for 16 miles it's mind numbing to drive I think that's why I don't get any visitors 😁 if you turn off the A road most B and C roads go straight into a 60 mph crazy oh and the 30 mph signs are less than half the normal size so can easily be missed I'm all for sensible speed limits but not so sure ours have the best intentions for safety more control and money making
