Was out on Thursday and passed a petrol station with no queue thinking I'll fill up Friday as I would be passing the petrol station again.
Thursday the announcement of fuel shortage. Did not get to go out Friday but will be Monday. I have about 1/2 a tank but because the nearest petrol station is about 8 or so miles away, I up when I'm passing. The media report the shortage of drivers leading to a shortage of fuel but we create the greater shortage by "all filling up today". So many people trying to fill up today cause he shortage today that gets noticed and so tomorrow and group fill up and cause a shortage tomorrow and so it goes on. If people filled up normally yes some petrol stations may still run out but other stations will have the capacity to take on the few extra customers macafee2 |

Most fuel stations in our area had long queues of cars, with some drivers getting irate about having to queue up. Perhaps they didn't realise that they were part of the queue length. I went to get a can of petrol for the chainsaw and had to queue up for nearly 30 minutes. AS for EV owners, you will miss out on another British tradition - the desire to panic buy and queue up. Although with petrol stations selling milk these days, you could still satisfy that desire every morning. |

Our news said. 5 BP stations had closed.
Th public did th rest. Who is at fault??? Th news for stating a fact or th public? Yes i agree th news has to make news but surely its up to us to make a dessision.

If the government make a statement it's for the media to report it, which they have done. The public have done the rest. |

I wonder why army drivers aren't being used to at least ensure fuel deliveries untill a more permanent solution can be found.

Yesterday, every station I passed in the Truro area had long queues spilling out onto the highway causing gridlock in several areas. I had half a tank of diesel in the Transit, so happily wafted past several queues. However, when I noticed Tesco in Redruth was queued around the block and then I passed Morrisons in Pool looking even more crazy I finally succumbed and turned around to join the queue 'just in case', heavily influenced also by SWMBO and the thought that when the government states 'don't panic', one probably should. Our son, who always runs on fumes, also has a full tank, possibly for the first time ever. As I was paying for fuel I passed the news-stand full of front page articles screaming fuel shortages. Great job by the media again. Those amongst us with an electric vehicle back up for local driving must feel just that mild frisson of satisfaction right now

Allegedly they're on standby but even if they are used it won't be instantaneous, there will have to be training involved.
