Default New belts - just in time...

To cut a long story short - the water pump on my 2.5 litre started leaking. Whilst I'm happy to attempt most things mechanical this really was a step too far. Went to see my friendly local mechanic and after a bit of thought I decided he might as well replace the belts as well. Although the belts had been done only 3000 miles ago, that had been in 2015 and about five owners before me. Sure enough, all three belts had cracks in them and the auxiliary belt was completely shot.
Of course, this wasn't the only issue as the radiator was leaking as well - grand total came to £1035 including the dreaded - just as well I wasn't planning on going on holiday this year. The car's thirst for fuel also meant I probably saved myself £50 in petrol whilst it was off the road (I'm using bloke-a-nomics to justify the cost).

Fitted a new (well cleaned and tested used) master cylinder, and aren't they fun to swap over.

Last one I did was on a Freelander TD4 - takes about a tenth of the time and no playing the contortionist.

I totally agree ref the master cylinder.
The loop snapped on mine that connects to the pedal.
A very kind fellow sent me a good second hand one through the post, but when I came to swap out just the plunger, I couldn't believe how difficult it was!

For a car which has such a long bonnet in front of the driver, it always amazes me they couldn't of found the room to fit the master cylinder under the bonnet somewhere.

My auto doesn't have one! Or a clutch! Guess why I bought an auto? I love it when the grockles come to Norfolk and cause traffic jams and I don't have to get "75 clutch knee"!

Took mine to the garage 8:00am and collected at 10:00am with new MOT with no advisories.
Done just over 1000 miles since last MOT.

Fitted a new thermostat to my CDTi today. Original one was leaking so had the mount off and jacked up the engine to get to it.
Not too bad a job apart from when the engine sprang off the mount and hit the coolant hose/ radiator joint and power steering pipe at the front. Both weeped but I think it was the pressure of the engine on them as they look alright hopefully with it all back in place.
