Engine noise from cdt
Hi all, my 75 cdt has developed an engine noise from the fanbelt end of the engine. It sounds like tappets on an older car and there is a slight vibration when i rev the engine. Any ideas?
Thanks Colin |

I think could be a tensioner / pulley? IIRC there's one that's notorious for going and causing an awful clatter on the CDT.

Mine sounds tappety when I first start it. Its been like it for a couple of years now.
After a mile or so the noise disappears. It could well be the pully on the crank separating. From what I understand its the rubber in between it that breaks down. Does the noise come from behind the drivers side wheel by any chance because that's where its located

I'm no expert to be perfectly honest but from what I've read the noise will eventually become horrendous before anything happens.
I'm sure someone who knows a lot more on this will be able to advise you will be a long shortly

The first time mine went (very loud), I drove home 15 miles - only low revs caused the noise due to centrifugal force at higher revs.
The most recent time, the pulley separated from the rubber and I lost power steering...... |
