Anti roll bar bushes are bad for knocking when they wear, and it's not always obvious that they are worn when they're under tension.

Mine is doing my head in too. 3 seperate garages (2 of which MG Rover specialists) can't find anything wrong. I've had top mounts done, two sets of droplinks, lower arm bushes done. No play anywhere - but as soon as you hit a poor road surface the ride is so noisy

you can tell the strut mounts are usually on there way out, when you go to turn the wheel with he car on the spot and it creaks like James Cameron's Titanic when the ship is going down! awful noise! I have to replace mine as last year I replaced with second spares and they have gone again! remember buy cheap buy twice!

How bad is the knocking?

I am sure I read somewhere that early on, there was a recall for knocking at low speed on poor surfaces, but it was never concluded.

My car quietly knocks from the front end over small bumps at low speed on bad roads and has only covered 40,000 miles, As does my dads, he has had top mounts, shocks, springs, drop links, lower arms and bushes, anti roll bar bushes and a steering rack.

Turn the radio up.

It's exactly this. Not helped by the serpent wheels no doubt. All my 75s have done it and it's SO annoying! The ride really isn't as good as everyone would have you believe.

I'm actually pretty fed up with these cars right now. Don't know why I chuck so much NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- money at mine.
