MG ZT190 "BMW" Calipers compared to those on lower spec ZTs.
In the process of renewing the Front Brake Discs and Pads on two MG ZT-Ts, I had the opportunity to compare the Pads' shapes and dimensions of the ZT190 with those on the "lesser" ZTs. The pads for both Calipers are identical!
I was under the impression the ZT190's Front Brakes were of superior capacity with larger overall diameter. From memory I believe the 190's Discs are 325mm against those on the other ZTs of 280. So, is it simply the larger diameter of the 190's Brake Discs are the only differences as the Calipers look much the same. Anyone able to clarify? TIA. |

having a very quick search on eBay, the sizes listed with this seller for the two different types are different for each type. Which is what I would expect really.

For the same force between the disc and pads, a bigger rotor generates more torque on the wheel - i.e. more stopping force. It is running though the pads faster, generating more friction for the same pressure, more stopping power, and as it has bigger surface area, is dissipating more of the generated heat, meaning the disc and pads run colder. So, for the same caliper and brake pad, a bigger rotor generates more braking for the same pressure or the same amount of braking for less pressure. |

It wouldnt suprise me if they are the same.
I have a set of 190 callipers at home i shall take pictures of those and upload them for comparison. They could be the same callipers with a larger spaced out carrier so as above larger rolling radius of the brake disc means more brake force even if both pads are the same size.

Hmmm.....
According to the Delphi, Mintex and EBC websites the size of the front pads/discs on the 'lesser' models is 157x68x18mm (pads) with 284x22mm (discs) and the sizes for the 190 (and 260) models is 155x64x20mm (pads) with 325x25mm (discs). So it would seem that there is a definite difference - although not by a lot! These measurements for the pads are very close - you may even be able to get the wrong pads to fit and work OK.... BUT it could have severe repercussions with insurance etc. if the worst were to happen and you had the wrong disc/caliper/pad combination.... Ben.

John the 623 Auto also has the same brakes as the 620Ti.

I love my new setup too, the larger area of disk does indeed give a longer lever, plus I think the piston diameter in the 190 caliper us larger so gives a higher brake force....
