BIG PROBLEM:~ ZT-T Rear Seat Removal.
Bought a tidy set of front and rear seats with the Monaco Style blue inserts.
Ideal for my dark blue 55-Reg ZT-T. On arrival, the seller had undone all accessible fasteners but, the captive securing "hinge" shaft proved impossible to release. Captive within a substantial sub-assembly welded to the bodywork. It defied all our efforts to release even after searching the "net" for clues. Eventually the seller used an Electric Saw and soon had the captive shaft ends released. So what is the best way to remove them without the need to cut metal? Got me beat. I've not looked at the seat fixings in my car the seats are going to be fitted in. Any pointers here greatly appreciated. Meantime, I'll do a search here and see what turns up. |

I thought you angle them and they lift out John.

Is the shaft not spring loaded? I thought the diamond end fitting needed to be gently levered towards the door, so the smaller diameter shaft then lifts out of the bracket?
Just read your second post John. As you suggest I think. Last edited by Typhoon190; 4th July 2017 at 22:12.. |

I'm still struggling with the new leather rear backrest for Mo.
Found an easy way to get it out (prise it out with a substantial flat blade screwdriver) But my problem now is getting the new one to seat properly. So I searched for how-to's and all I found were videos of taking them out, not putting them back in. But I found a thread on the other 75 forum where someone said the MG's have spring loaded bits which need to be prised outwards to release them for taking it out. Now your only problem is welding the bit back into place so it can take the replacement backrest. Good luck

Your pics show quite a few differences when compared to the saloons John. The metal seat rod bracket ends are different, also the welded hinge body plate.
I would imagine the removal technique should still be the same, a broom handle or a jack lever positioned under the rear seat so one end is pointed towards the boot. Then angle the seat at the 10 o'clock position and pull up on the broom handle while rocking the seat up and down. |

There is a sliding collar on the end of the seat shaft that you move outwards with a flat blade screwdriver and the seat backs just lift out. I will try to put up a picture shortly.

Can`t get a decent pic but behind the Diamond shaped endthere is a collar if you push this towards the seat with a flat blade driver the seat lifts out, hope this helps
