New MOT , not impressed
My wife's Mini required an MOT and I expected it to pass. However, it failed because I had overlooked that the driver side windscreen wiper missed a very small area in the middle.
But why it was considered to be a major fail, needing immediate attention, I just don't know! Rant over! |

The tester has no say how it’s worded, they tick the fail option and the system words it that way as major

Not MG but Daughters Cmax , failed yesterday
On weak parking brake on one side . as a major !! (Found Adjuster spring not in proper place ) Small chip in the low centre of the windscreen as Minor ( now this has passed 2 previous MOTs before at the same garage ) and was on the car when we got it . Advisories of a back tyre tread depth ? Check both and both over 3mm above the wear bars?? C

Whilst I agree that the tester has no control of how the failure point is catagorized, the item must be failed by the tester in the first place.
The wiper blade not clearing the screen is fair enough although in my opinion, a bit strong for it to be classed as a Major fail. As far as I know, the limits for windscreen chips have not changed so why not put that as an advisory? With regards to the tyres being 3mm above the tread wear marker, the tester shouldn't have even made any reference to them whatsoever! Sorry for any confusion here.....I was responding to both posts (#1 & #4) about MOT failures. Last edited by mh007; 29th June 2018 at 13:24.. |

The Tyres on the rear look like old fronts so have a scrubbed edge, but about 10mm wide and where there wasn't any tread in the first place? .
But sorted the Brake and got a PASS "with Defects" , don't like the way its worded makes the car look Dodgy .. C. .. Quote:

With the stricter regulations, not being able to see through the screen properly due to the bad blade would be considered a major fault.
Much as we don’t like it sometimes, the MOT system had to be given this neccesary overhaul. |

How can it be a pass "with defects"? If It's defective, It's a fail!! Personally, I would query why the tester felt the need to do that & if your not happy, contact DVSA. Whilst I agree that sometimes systems need an overhaul, that's no excuse for any MOT tester to go overboard blaming it on the new system. |
