Default Worth it to come to the UK to get some work done?

Please don't shoot me down yet, but in the pursuit to save a bit of money with better service I have been thinking of coming to the UK to get some work done on the car. I would love to help as well, since I enjoy learning from working on the car.

The thing is, there are only a few Rover specialists in NL, and I prefer to get the work done by a mechanic who doesn't only know his Rover stuff, but has a passion for it. The specialists in NL I visited have dissapointed me in many aspects, and the only one I trusted went into a different kind of business.

I am thinking of getting the belts done (already both the kit from Mat) and to get the clutch done (both plates and slave cylinder). If there is time and place, I would like to take the brakes off and clean them up, I have the feeling some brakes don't move in/out as smooth as they should.
The quotes I've got in NL are fairly high, looking at about 2000 euro to get it all done.

If I could find a better mechanic in the UK, I could potentially save a bit of money. The drive over costs about 300 euro return (fuel + train).

I have also looked at Rover specialists in Belgium or Germany, but I have trouble finding proper info on this.

Not a bad idea. The next one is in a few days, although they
often run through until October.

Gerard (Teddy) came over last year to have his belts done at ours, he managed to get a weekend away and the job done for a lot less than back home in Holland.

I need to set up over there I think 😎👍

yes it's worth it even if it costs more short term, it's better than paying twice for the jobs to be done wrong twice.

I wouldn't hesitate.

And wouldn't Hook of Holland to Harwich bring someone from Netherlands very close to Norfolk and probably much less expensive and easier than the train and driving down to France? And you'd have a cruise thrown in..

Anywhere where I could find an agenda of nano meets?

You should, and bring the T4 with you lol. No T4 guru's over here as far as I know. But good to know somebody beat me to it with success.

Agreed, apart from having it done incorrectly, I would also hate it when thay start throwing tools around, scratching my carefully polished paintwork. I'm very finnicky with damaging stuff.

Via France Duinkerken -> Dover, the ferry would be about 94 euro return.
Via Hoek from Holland to Norfolk is about 415 euro return.
Petrol cost from NL to France, and from Dover to (for example Coventry) is a total of about 290 euro return.

Hook of Holland to Harwich for car + driver around the €400+ level as said for travel in coming days /weeks.

However, allowing for some planning and setting up appointments, parts etc., and avoiding mad holiday traffic, a trip on the same route on Wed. 19/9 @ 14:30 with Rtn Thu 20/9 at 23:00 =€245 on Stena through aferry.ie. If you want back in Friday @ 09:00 the fare would be 135.

+overnights and expenses ( & my Travel Agent fee of course...)
