There are just 2 types of headlight fitted to the facelift Mark 2 car:
A) Standard Halogen lamps with Projector Lenses, or B) Xenon HID gas discharge lamps. The latter were an optional extra, for your car, and the way to check is easy: 1) Look at the headlamp lens, if it has the words "Xenon Technology" written inside the glass then they are True Gas Discharge HID Xenon Headlamps, the non Xenon Projector type look exactly the same, but no writing. Additionally, take a look inside at your Light Switch Module Switchpack. If your car has True Xenon Headlamps, you won't have a dial to the right for manual leveling. Part of the spec of the Xenon HID's is that they are self leveling. If however your switchpack does have a knob to manually adjust the headlamp level like this picture, then you only have standard Halogen headlamps (which may or may not have Projector lenses that conatin Blue Vision H7 bulbs). Hope that helps |

I have a 2004 75 CDTi Tourer and under the bonnet there is a yellow sticker saying Xenon bulbs only - when I look at the front of the headlight it does not say xenon tech and I have a manual adj switch on the dash for the level. However when I take out the main beam bulbs they are H9 and not H7. I cannot work out how to get the dipped headlight bulb out! I can get to it thro the hatch in the wheel arch and get the cover and the lead off it no problem. The manual says it should have a wire clip holding the bulb in - but I cant see it and cant work out how to get the bulb out?

I have seen the wire clip diagramme. Mine didn't have one. Must be earlier cars. I replaced my bulb the other day on a facelift. Twist it anti-clockwize

To answer you other question regarding the sticker stating xenon bulbs, you will find this sticker on all cars, regardless of what bulbs are fitted..

Here's the Mk1 wire clip fitting and the Mk1/2 projector (halogen) fitting. Turn the bulb holder anti-clockwise to release the bayonet. Then just pull bulb/holder out as one piece. Refitting is the same method in reverse. There is a rubber gasket under the bulb and this may make the unit very tight. TC Last edited by T-Cut; 19th May 2011 at 11:36.. |
