Default H9's for the Facelift market

I know I've come late on this thread, but my point is applicable and may help someone else make a mistake.

I bought H7's & H1's (Osram Nightbreakers) for my '54 reg Faceleft, which were advertised as suitable.

It was discovered when fitting that apparently the Facelift needs H9's for the full beam, suppliers seem unaware of this difference and either reply negatively upon suitbility or don't respond at all.

So I now need to fit H9's, but there appears to be more obstacles, such as what's legal etc etc.

I found these, which are advertised as legal, but are for a Volvo? Again there's a barrier about H.I.D. v's Halogen, do I have H.I.D. fittings?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=170714271763

Does anyone have the experience to advise me if these are OK?

Much appreciated,

Martin

DON'T get those bulbs!

Theres "proper" HID's / Xenon's, which have a bulb, linked to a ballast (metal box).

Theres also eBay special bulbs, which are filled with Xenon gas... they burn a little brighter, but burn out a LOT quicker!

So which bulbs to get for the pre-facelift HID units?

IF you have MK1 Xenons ("HID units"), you need a D2S bulb.

It was my understanding that if you have reflectors you need H7 for dipped, H1 for main and if you have projectors you need H7 for hipped, H9 for main. However, reading around this forum and the other I'm not so sure as some facelift (the facelift never had reflectors, only projectors) owners report having H1s in the main beam, so now I'm not so sure?

One thing is for certain if you have HIDs ("Xenon Technology"), you need D2S for dipped beam.

You can tell if you have HIDs because the headlmap units have a silver box screwed to the back which is a combined ingniter/ballast unit for the HID burners and you will no manual headlamp height adjustment wheel in the cabin. If you have the dial, or if no silver box is present (i.e. you have a rubber cap which is removed to access the bulbs), then you don't have HIDs (unless of course you have an aftermarket HID kit!)

Oh dear...now i am confused, one of my bulbs has just gone yesterday,
so any help welcome.....so here we go...
04 plate Tourer, looks like projector light as in post #2,and have a wheel/knob
at the side of the switch, no Xenon markings on the lens (only Hella), but a yellow
sticker on the front of the car near the radiator stating xenon headlamp only....
so simple question is what ones do i need, and is it worth replacing both at the same time, bulb which has gone....is the one in the projector/headlight (still have beam)
can see the bulb lit from the front, also is this the bulb which is accessed via the wheel arch cover plate....and any bulb recomedations,Halfrauds doing 2 for 1 on brilliance range.... any good....?
thanks
Paul

All MK2's have projectors.

During project drive, MGR went from fitting 3 stickers (the oil, coolant and Xenons where fitted) to fitting a single sticker with all details, on all cars (for example - my cars sticker lists the V8 oil capacity but obviously doesn't have one under the hood!).

No powerwash + no self-levelling means no Xenons.

So you've got MK2 Halogen Projectors (although I'm not sure what bulbs that needs).

Halfords bulbs are quite expensive... you can get Osram Nightbreakers & Phillips Extreme (but watch out for fakes!) on eBay.

If it's a fiddly job, Halfords fit them free (or used to) if you buy from them.
