British car - van - busses watch in Tanzania
Just been on hols to Tanzania and kept my eyes open for any British vehicles on the roads. Listed what i saw below:
Land rovers - handful on roads here but it's mainly Japanese off roaders. Leyland bus - painted up in military colours. Looked old but well maintained. Jaguar - single jag XE looked pretty new. LDV vans - masses of them in use in Zanzibar. You don't see them on the mainland but for whatever reason Zanzibar is stacked full of them. It's hot and some of the roads are rough but they are thriving here. I also found a Gec marine engine made in Glasgow painted up and on display in a car park near a slipway. Not sure how to upload pics but as to why there are so many LDV's in Zanzibar does anyone know? Cheers Jim |

The LDVs have to live somewhere nice and warm otherwise they will rot away 🤣

An acquaintance was sending containers to Tanzanier full of second hand goods and cars, more as a favour to a Student he had met from there. It was more than a money making venture, he really wanted to help them.
He was stopped as whatever UK gov’t department claimed he was exporting waste. I saw one of the containers contents, it was full of usable bikes, T.Vs, tools, etc, all good stuff. |
