Cataylytic Converter Cleaner?
I'm seeing adverts for "BoostUp Catalytic Converter Cleaner" on FaceBook. Sounds marvellous, but then again, most scam adverts do on FaceBook! Has anyone tried this stuff, or is it just another heap of sh*t on faceBook trying to empty your pocket book? Does my catalytic converter ever need cleaning?
Whilst we're at it, same applies to the well-advertised "shine armour" detailing cleaner - does it do what the adverts say?

The best way to ''clean'' your catalytic convertor is to take it for a good run at a constant high speed.
Most cars that suffer with convertor problems are used mainly on short runs so it does not get up to temp for a decent amount of time. One of my customers has a tidy oldish Focus that does about 2k miles a year. Every year for the test I have to take it out for an hour or so the clear it out so it passes its MOT on emissions, this involves a nice round trip with about 30 miles of motorway and dual carriageway. |

Whilst I like to look after my old car, this is one treat he is not going to get! I did a few thousand high speed miles back in October, (and got the speeding tickets to prove it ) but yes, most of my 'normal' journeys are to the shops and back, so a quick run along the motorway early next month should set me up for the MOT
