Never owned a diesel of any colour/make or origin but I got the general gist of what he meant - and I own a couple of 2.5 V6's

Behind the rear off side wheel, but in frront of the bumper??? looking from the front of the car.

the powers of perception and complications of location From my house in Northern Ireland, I will have to guess at behind the bumper, however currently my own is in front of the bumper

Thank you for that accurate description .
I suppose it could be said that the windscreen washer bottle is in front of the front bumper looking from the back of the car .
PLaying with words , showing how easy it is to give the wrong impression.
