It surprises me that no one has so far mentioned the former states of the USSR - I would have tought that some of them must retain chemical warfare capabilities of the former USSR and have a strong interest in ensuring that relations between the West and Russia continue to deteriorate.

The whole scenario of using a nerve agent only developed by the USSR seems just too obvious and not very clever unless the intention is to implicate the Russian regime.

The fact that the daughter was equally affected implies for me that she was not a conspirator.
Another valid consideration, not yet considered afaik, is that to bring such material into the UK would be difficult to ensure total secrecy. With Customs & Excise presence etc it would be stupid to risk discovery in such a mundane way. Unless of course it entered in a 'diplomatic bag' and went directly into the embassy. After all it is Russian military material. Always supposing of course that 'we' don't do that kind of thing. Just saying.

I do not understand the reason for all the skullduggery .
Why go to such lengths , as using a rare poison tip umbrella, using a rare reactive isotope to poison cup of tea, and now this unique nerve gas, all of which can be traced to their origins .
There are many other ways of getting the same result that would be much more difficult to trace. ( Im not telling you though ! )
Is it because the perpetrators want to be eventually identified , so as to terrify their emigrated ex spies etc ?
The very fact that these methods are all so unique points the finger of suspicion in a certain direction .

Why now I ask? Putin is up for re-election this month and if successful, he will remain in power until 2025. It is in his interests to demonstrate that he is a strong and fearless leader, that his power and reach can extend to anywhere in the world.

Breaking news is that the military and police have sealed off an area in Gillingham (Dorset)

https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/93...ted-police-war

My son goes to Gillingham High School and I got a message, before I saw this, saying that the town is gridlocked.

All very worrying.

Word on the street says that the military have been called in to remove a breakdown truck, that was used to recover Skripil's car.

If that is true, you should be okay by tomorrow Chris. It is not like they have called the AA, or anything.
