Well, that's what I always thought Ben - I have like 40 years' no claims, so you'd think I'd be a desirable customer

I have a boringly clean record - one SP30 3½ years ago; last claim was 1975 I think mind you, that was a total write off of my Celica (the original one), and a metallic fern green Vauxhall Viva, driven by our local councillor. He did a U-turn in front of me when I was overtaking him sedately at 85 or so in a 30.

The Viva tore in half at the bulkhead, leaving his feet sticking out, as I remember. Nobody was wearing seat belts, but no injuries... see, I wasn't always a boring old f*rt...

I was (and still am) insured with Hastings direct, I had the maximum no claims in my 75 conny cdt and a couple of years ago came down with mid-life crisis and bought a 190 but of course had no NCD on the 190 so I enquired with Hastings about 'Mirrored insurance' they have 'Multicar insurance' and as long as I keep the first car insured with them they will give the same NCD on the MG as the 75, you don't have to start afresh with the first car's insurance, that will run for as long as it originally would have.

Thanks for all the helpful replies - but, after a 200-mile round trip to look at the car, the guy has now decided he wants to keep it

So... topic closed, unless anybody else is interested...

Just to re awaken this thread, firstly tried our regional classic car people Autoline, x 2 times were to ring me back but didn't (disappointed TBH) , plus needs to be 20yrs old, then tried my current insurer, Privilege, asked for "mirrored" NCB (we have multi-car policy with them) , but they don't do that and quoted £280, Adrian Flux wanted £350 and assured me I wouldn't get a better quote!

So I went on comparethemarket, £291, hhhmmm, stuck her indoors on it, £211 with 5k miles and £15 for basic annual breakdown cover, pretty pleased, AA were the insurers.

I'm another one that doesn't understand how insurers work! If I am insured say third party, why does that not apply to all my cars? There's only one of me, I can't drive two cars at once, so where exactly is the extra risk to the insurance company that I will have an accident? Why is it the car that is insured, and not me, especially for just basic third party insurance?

Sounds like a rip off to me...

Classic policy for my Mk1 Mini costs me £92 annually.
Agreed value (£14k) limited mileage (3000) but it never does even 1000 miles a year. Tax and now MOT exempt, its a cheap to run classic.

Oh yes, your postcode now seems to be the biggest factor as far as insurance is concerned.
This even applies to house insurance, I am told that I am in a flood risk area due to people at the bottom of the hill having the same postcode as me at the top of the hill.
