Default Fuel Gauge Issue

I had the front to back brake pipes replaced on the ZT-T a couple of months ago and since then, as per the title of this thread, the fuel gauge has not worked properly.

Having monitored it, the only time I seem to get an accurate reading is when the ingnition is first turned on and the car and engine are cold. Once running and everything is warm, the fuel guage keeps creeping up, so that generally it is reading about a third more fuel in the tank than you actually have.

I believe the fuel tank is dropped when these brake pipes are replaced, so something has gone awol during that process, I guess? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Im guessing a stretched wire or a trapped wire, remove the rear seat base and have a look at the plug on top of the tank.

I wonder if one of the two senders in the tank has come adrift although looking t the wiring diagram it looks as though a break in the circuit would stop it working.

Thanks for the responses. I certainly need to see what’s going on under the seat base and check wiring etc. Or at least, find somebody more knowledgable than me to do it!

There are two level sensors, one for each side of the tank, which is like a saddle shape. The two values are fed to the dash which does a bit of wizardry, to calculate an actual level. Your problem suggests it is not getting a proper reading from one side. Under the rear seat, there is a removable access panel to the tank wiring.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

You could check the rheostat readings:

Michael; don’t touch anything and take your car back to the garage. If they have introduced a new fault it is their responsibility to rectify it, not yours.
