Breakdown cover
I use Drive 24/7. Less than £50 for full cover. Try them, cover is comprehensive, no hidden problems.

Have you called them out a lot maybe? I am sure I heard they were introducing some sort of no claims discount. I know somebody who called them out 7 times in a year and was told they would not come out anymore for that vehicle what ever the reason. |

It says 'subject to car being less than 6 years old' on their site, no mention of charges for older vehicles and not really much detail about anything at all.

As much as I understand why people try and save money on this type of insurance you need to be so careful, I have heard numerous stories of people being driven to garages to fix there car and then being charged crazy amounts of money for the job or being put on a recovery truck and the journey taking a lot longer due to the drivers hours. One customer of mine took nearly 16 hours to do 200 miles. He was left in a layby for 6 hours while they tried to find another driver with enough hours to get him home and when he turned up he only had a couple of hours left on his tacho so they had to stop again.
Seriously if you get charged £100 a year that is less than £2 a week and I am sure most of us pay a lot more than that for a sandwich or coffee with out even a thought. If you drive a car out of manufacturers warranty it is a necessary expense, just think of how much you are saving on depreciation? 2 weeks depreciation on most cars is probably the cost of your brake down cover. |

I saw that story too, it was on Watchdog or similar and involved either the AA or RAC relaying them home. I think there were several examples of issues with the same company. I was one who reported being charged silly amounts to fix a breakdown, by a garage who had recovered me. It was just a failed clutch master cylinder, but they charged me £450 for the part plus labour, claiming it had taken them 6 hours. I could have done the job, had I the part and tools, in an hour - with time included for a breakfast break. Recovery was covered by the breakdown cover.

I have AA Gold Membership including Relay. I was quoted £168 to renew. Chatted to them on the phone, said I can't do that, too expensive. Their response ? How about £119 fixed for 2 years.
That's better !! |

Guild of Experienced Motorists / MotorAssist are still my favourites. I've been with them since 1977 and they've been great on each occasion I've needed them.
