Superb machine it is too, really pretty bike, I also like the Velo Thruxton,
It achieved some amazing results when raced and certainly earned it's name.
My all time favourite of all the classic Brits though is the BSA DBD34 Goldstar (THE most beautiful and complete bike of all time... in my mind) just can't believe what they are going for though, I'd have to re-mortgage to own one now.
Oh well ... dream on eh!

I knew someone that had a 'James captain' a long while ago, lost touch with him now but remember he used to work on it constantly and often said he would never sell it.
Would be interesting to know if he still owns it now as the last time I saw him was back in 79.

ok its not jap spec but British bikes like yours did not have to change gear every few miles and hour and just pulled.
That's how I like my bikes, grunt to just keep pulling without the need to keep changing gear

I can remember quite a few years ago I was talking to a Policeman about bikes. He told me a story about when the Police force bought a new Honda Blackbird and he was to get it for 2 weeks, "I was so excited " he said. Two days before it was due to arrive he hurt his ankle, and it was swollen like a balloon. He collected the bike but soon found that because of the pain in his ankle he couldn't manage to change gear. Not wanting to take the bike back and miss his chance, he rode it for the full two weeks in 2nd gear.

A bike like that with so much power doesn't even need gears lol

Bet there are lots of bike/ car owners who would like to share some of their intersecting tales of life on two wheels.----
What a good idea

I'm a honda fan, went back to two wheels after I retired, bought a suzuki burgman 125 followed by a new burgman 400, kept them in France. The 400 was in many ways a decent machine mind wheels were too small. Then got a honda cb250 nighthawk and last year a 2016 honda cb500 x

Don't do a lot of miles just enjoy what I do.

Likewise mine too..

Raleigh moped, just to get me around the town as I worked all over town. Really it was pathetic and didn't last long, just long enough to get a full licence.

Francis Barnet, that was a cheap old wreck and was still a wreck when I part-ex it for a 250cc Yamaha. I went all over the UK on that, then moved to four wheels.

A few years ago, bought a cheap 600cc job of some make, just to see if I still liked biking. I went all over the north on that, decided I did and bought the Honda VFR750.

Never had an accident, never had an injury, just a bit of gravel rash.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

One of the best bike stories I heard was from back in the good 'ole Brit bike days. Old mate of mine told me gapping the points with a fag paper was common practice, guy did it but used the gummed edge leaving a circle of gum on the face of the points effectively insulating them, nearly killed himself trying to start the bike.

When I told him I'd picked up a Norton (Commando) he said "tell me its not a Dominator!". I asked why, he said they were like riding a pneumatic drill He have me a lot of great advice you'd never find in a manual. When I was rebuilding it I had a problem with it running rich, he asked if I'd replaced the float bowl gaskets, I said yes. He said take them off and shave about 1mm from the inside edge of the gasket as a new gasket can expand when you refit the bowl and stop the float going fully up, did that and cured the overfuelling!

Very exciting to say the least! lol.

I had a blue one very similar to yours, it had Lester alloy wheels and Denco pipes. There was a guy in Bolton years ago that experimented with reed valves on an H2B, it was rumoured he also had a 2A still in it's crate.
