Default Nox

Hi, see that a according to some research the modern diesel isn't as dirty in terms of nox. The mercedes 220 came out emitting zero levels. What's going on? All this move towards electrification of everything will surely overload our electricity production capability. I'm sticking with diesel in my driving lifetime.

As most oil and its products are imported, it would be better, financially, for our governments if we produce our own fuels (eg. electric power), cutting our reliance on "outside" suppliers. A deep debate will no doubt follow!

We need to start Fracking seriously so we can use our own natural gas!

LPG and/or CNG is a far better interim option.

I may be wrong but don't coal powered power stations burn imported coal?

And DPF are working better and better.

But I still say diesel is really not the best option for urban vehicles. Fine for long journey vehicles where DPF’s and EGR’s can clean themselves.

Urban vehicles should be electric as a best option and LPG/CNG second with them being an ideal compromise for urban/longer journeys

Default Diesel – really that bad?

Interesting 30min Diesel documentary on DW German tv (in English) published on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gguwJRrzzF8&t=139s

Makes interesting an interesting case and backs up some of what has been said in UK recently of banning gas powered boilers in new build homes.
Plus stop burning all those trendy candles too!

Whats going on, it’s SCR systems (adblue), they work very well at knocking off the Nox without having to compromise too much on engine performance. Unfortunately as these cars get older no doubt there will be a market in inhibiting the systems as there is for HGV’s. Who wants cleaner air eh?

Produce our own electricity? We import a lot of it from France. It’s going to be a laugh when everyone has to go electric, like they are saying about banning gas being connected to new houses in 6 years time. About time we kicked the cuckoo out of the nest I think.

How about stopping breathing? That would solve all the problems.

Yep! - that would work . Whilst the Greens go all wobbly at atmospheric CO2 approaching 400ppm - we all exhale breath that has c.38,000ppm CO2

That’s a ratio of 1:95
