I'm getting 35mpg, on average, out of my 75 1.8 Turbo. It drives beautifully and gives a lot of the local boy racers a wee surprise now and again when they think its an old boy in a slow rover!

If you're looking for something with low-ish miles, you can buy one for not much more than half the price of a diesel model (with comparable miles). The K series petrol engine is actually a good lump if properly cared for. The much talked about Head Gasket Failure is not really a big deal and will cost 3 or 4 hundred quid to permanently fix - IF it happens!! Both the diesels and K series have their respective faults, BTW.

You'd have to be doing big miles to justify the extra dosh for an oil burner.

You have a point in petrol vs diesel. I've had a K-series engine before in a Rover 400 and as you say as long as you keep the coolant levels monitored and topped up, you shouldn't have a problem. For me though I do sufficient mileage that the diesel still makes sense.

I think the green ZTT looks very nice and if I was in the market for one I would jump at it .Even at that price a lot of car for little money.
