Crankcase oil breather filter
Hi all was just wondering if anyone had fitted this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-75-M...YAAOSwuTxWBUJK
I got one last weekend. Strange thing is that in the Haynes manual there is no mention of replacement intervals I know its a pain to fit as air intake & filter housing have to come out in order to access. Does it improve performance etc? Thanks Phil. |

It's a fit and forget product no extra power etc, plenty of people have fitted them but I prefer a OEM mini toilet roll

Nice one, thanks. Just wondered why there's no mention of it requiring replacement.
Oh well, fitting mine on Saturday along with my shiny nice wooden steering wheel I picked up from Roverfest :-) |

Hi the filter is an important part, failure to replace can result in the dip stick being blown out like a bullet leaving the muzzle of a gun due to excessive crankcase pressure. Back in the olden days the crankcase had a breather pipe that either ran into an open expansion vessel to collect the condensed oil vapour or it was ducted back in to the air intake for the vapour to be burnt off during the combustion stroke of the engine. See the current F1 goings on with a certain red car burning oil as a fuel supplement. Most cars had some kind of filter, usually a wire gauze some where in the system to condense oil vapour and allow it to drain back into the sump. The service interval for a breather filter is 30,000 miles or 60 months. Usually these filters were in the rocker cover cap. But with progress we now hide them in many places. It takes less than thirty mins to change the one on the 75 less if you are in at the air filter. Crankcase back pressure is not a good thing, my recommendation would be to change this every second service. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
