Vacuum cleaners
Vacuum cleaners, bit of an off beat subject for what is mostly a men's forum.
My wife has a Miele one with a long hose and you drag the cleaner around, old fashioned style. When it comes to sucking up dirt and reaching under cupboards it's brilliant but I don't like it. Even on a low suction setting it will lift a mat up or go around a corner and the damn thing bangs against a door or the skirting board. We had a Dynson but the wife said it was too heavy, this had a beater and was easily manoeuvrable. I guess cordless if light enough may be the answer but how well do they suck up dirt and can I bother to keep charging it? what have you? macafee2 |

We have the same problem, I have an Industrial Karcher drag along hoover, sucks the pile out of the carpet almost and has a huge bag so only needs changing rarely. The power cord is so long that it will do the hole house if I plug it in the spare bedroom.
We also have one of these plug in bag less lightweight Hoovers, it will pick up fluff and loos cat hair but not much else. We borrowed one of those rechargeable ones that are advertised on the TV, it worked quite well but needed to be emptied almost every time it was used and I don't know where they get ''can clean a hole house on one charge'' They must mean doll houses as it just about did down stairs and it needed the other battery to do upstairs. It will be interesting to see what others have and if anybody has the ideal solution. |

I also own a Dyson mains unit but bought the latest Dyson V8 cordless and it’s a fantastic piece of equipment. It’s very light, quiet and manoeuvrable, goes under the kitchen table and between the chair legs with ease. It’s got two rotating heads, one for smooth floors and another for carpets, changed in seconds. Comes with an plenty of tools to tackle jobs around the house

Lol Vacuum cleaners...
Funny you should mention vacuum cleaners, have you heard the latest law that effects the vacuum cleaner as we know it? The maximum wattage of a vacuum cleaner being manufactured today cannot be more than 900W. We ourselves prefer the lay-down canister type vacuum cleaner, they seem to be easier to manoeuvre, tackling all those awkward places with ease (must also be a bagless model). We have a 1400W Tesco own brand special, the wife liked it because it was black and purple, I liked it because it looked sporty... lol I have a 1400W 30ltr TITAN wet & Dry vacuum that I use for DIY purposes and cleaning out the car's. It has a built in Power-take-off socket so I can use it with my power tools, its a large beast. |

Baught the wife a GTECH cordless when they first came out- does everything we need, is light and easy to use recharging is a doddle. If you have a number of hairy pets it might struggle but so do most of the standard machines. No hoses or other tools but I always found them more of an inconvenience than anything. We are just two people in a small 3bed with occasional visits of children with dog, mostly wood floors with rugs and some rooms full carpeting. The charge is long enough to do the complete house with some left over. Nothing to do with company, not even a share holder!! Chris.S.
