Firmly in my mind, my father was a para who dropped early on D-Day. As with many he was dropped miles off course and was, fortunately or unfortunately depending which way you look at it, captured and taken POW and spent the rest of the war in a work camp as a Hitler 'slave'. Must never forget.

Sadly the D-day event seems to become less relevant every passing year , we really do owe everything to the people who put their lives at risk , and the ones who never made it , without them things would be very different today

My brother is over there now. Unfortunately the veteran he is with had a fall last night and is in hospital in France.

I am sure he will be well taken care of. He can just flash his Légion d'honneur.

I'll definitely be there next year for the 75th.

Normandy puts on a great event. They never forget.

you are quite right. When we think of 1066 I'm sure many don't know what the date is for and feel it has no relevance on today. All these historic events have a bearing on today.

Allie and enemy had brave people and I respect them both

Have to agree with that. What infuriates me is the trend to pick over significant historical events and criticise what was done. Also trying to find fault with historical figures, I think it was C4 that had a programme on a while ago claiming Churchill was a racist

There's also a movement who want historical figure statues removed because of what they did in the past

Always remembered here with so many departing from Weymouth and Portland.

I would have posted this yesterday but there was a tragic accident close by so thought it best left.

Those coming to the meet at the weekend will be able to view the statues at Castletown.
Cheers Ian
