Default I hate PDF files

I have no idea why companies send customers pdf files.
They are so user unfriendly. Word or excel much easier to use as I think more people have these programs.

I cant hide the columns and rows in a pdf file that are of no use to me, I can in excel

I find pdfs simple and basic. Perfect for transferring information to others. Since pdfs are easily the most universal files for info they are perfect.

Most browsers will display them. Chrome will allow you to save web pages as pdfs also. Obviously you need something like acrobat to edit them, but that is not what most pdf files sent to customers etc are for.

PDFs also:

  • difficult to alter - makes accidental changes impossible
  • Only show what you can see - no hidden data accidentally leaked like is possible with office documents that aren't properly sanitised.
  • Display how the producer intends regardless of PC or screen (nearly true, not as true as it used to be though)
  • Office files (word etc) more likely (statistically) to carry viruses or malicious macros which can't exist in PDFs (like any file PDFs can be infected by viruses but appear to be fewer possibilities).
PDF viewer absolutely free and displays PDF files the same as any viewer.
Word/Excel depends on version etc. Free viewers (used to) exist from MS. Other free office suites can usually open them. MS Office itself is expensive - I won't pay for it for home use.

One thing I find with PDF files is, if you have to print it out, it takes about four sheets of paper with only one sheet showing the relevant info.

Who said computers would do away with paper

You can't - that's the point of PDF - what you see is what you get - there's no manipulation or reformatting of the displayed data possible without a proper PDF editor (not cheap!).

when it comes to printing them, at the print dialogue, you can choose which pages to print(all, or 1,2,3,4, 1-2, 1-3, 2-3, 3-4, 2-4 etc) . I am not sure if it is my work print dialogue or a PDF setting (prob my work print engine), but you can also choose to print as a booklet. So your 4 pages become 2 and can be conveniently folded into a booklet. Something that came in very handy for me with the list of torque settings that is on one of the Facebook groups.

if you have Photoshop, you can open the file in that, and crop out the sections you dont want, then save as a PDF again or jpeg etc. It is a bit of a faff, but that sheet is not designed for that kind of function.

There is a clue in the title of the web link 'wysiwyg' (what you see, is what you get). I know it isnt what you want, but it gives a hint at them putting it into all one sheet for easy and universal reference.

I do have Adobe Acrobat Pro., which allows editing of PDF files as well as offering options to save the file as a Word, Excel file etc.
Looking at your file, I can open, and I can make changes. However, that is a seriously large page - 659mm wide by 1,150mm deep - and I can see loads of potential problems if I re-save it as either an MS Word or MS Excel file.
What is it you are wanting to delete/hide - I may be able to do it in Acrobat Pro and re-save it as a PDF for you to open, look at and print (albeit on a lot of sheets of paper!)

There is another option that may allow you to work on it free. I haven't tried it, in fact haven't used the program in years. Open office. It would allow saving as pdf, and since it is also compatible with ms office, it may allow for cross formatting?

Maybe someone could confirm?
