Ah, the old Commando. A word actually derived from South Africa. A bunch of farmers fighting the English.!
Beautiful bike, I have an early Fastback being restored at the moment. Otherwise most driving Moto Guzzi. They span from mundane to rather fast, got a bit to choose between. Also got a Katana GSXR 1100 from 1982 (?) with less than 7000 km. That one is just too busy and tingling. If you don't do 100 Mph, it is uncomfortable, as all the weight is on your wrists. No, you certainly don't need 100 bhp to have fun on a bike! ----- but it does help

How much did the photo cost you? Last time we were up John’o Groats, a chap was charging to have your photo taken with the sign in it. We declined, and went round the back of the sign and took one.

Had a Commando . . . . at the same time as a 1500cc Goldwing! The contrast was interesting! Think the best bike I had was the ST1100. Comfortable, great for distance. I had one of the first in the country. I went into my local bike shop for something and they'd just got the demonstrator. Threw me the keys and I was hooked before I got to the end of the road. |

I can't remember the cost of the photo, but yes it was quite expensive.
I did take several on my phone but getting the both of us and the bike in the picture was difficult lol. A commando, I never owned one but my brother had a green fastback which I rode a few times. I did actually like it. My brother has quite a collection of old bikes these days, including a yellow commando production racer.

I had a few bikes during the 50/early 60s, but nothing of note R.E BSA. The only one I really wanted was a Vincent Black Shadow. Now there was a bike to yearn for.

Best bike I ever had was a Honda CX500 circa 1980. Shaft drive, water cooled and no oil leaks! Sadly none now.

I passed my test on a CG100, leapt straight onto a honda CBX750 (which eventually taught me pretty much everything I know about engine building) then I had a FZ750 (my favourite one) a CBR600 and now I have an original 1990's Triumph Trophy in the garage. To be honest it's too top heavy for my liking but I am in the process of taking the fairing off and turning it into a tasteful 'cafe racer'

Maybe my shape, but I found it very comfortable for mile eating. I remember I added some bar adaptors, raise the bars a touch, which helped. The only thing I didn't like comfort wise, was the coming to a stop and keeping it up right - the seat was too wide it forced my legs apart to reach the ground and the height. My father had a long association with bikes and I guess I took after him. His last one was a shaft drive green Sunbeam S7(..?).

My 4
Evening all
Started my bike life thanks to the wife , who introduced me to her Yamaha rd125lc. Never ridden a bike before so we found a quiet Rd and she taught me how to ride a bike. It had a few problems in the end and was sold via loot paper , stripped down in boxes. Guy who brought it picked it up in a fiesta for £75. Big regret. Next up , after taking my direct access test was a Suzuki gs500e , with a full fairing. Not a bad bike but built to a budget. Then came the Kawasaki zzr600e , which was a cracking bike , very capable of munching miles at silly speeds. Sadly had to sell that to help fund the move from London to Cumbria. Finally in 2007 got the cbr1100xx-v , 1996 model with carbs. Bike of my dreams from when they were first released. I have sadly abused this one , its been used everyday , in all weathers. Chucked it down the Rd in freezing fog , ending up in the middle of the road, over the brow of a hill , pitch black , wearing black leathers , unconscious , luckily for me the van behind blocked the road , and sorted everything out. Its sat outside under a "waterproof cover" for 6 years and then , due to a shoulder problem I couldn't ride it for over a year. That's when I decided to strip it down and restore it. That was 18 months ago and its not progressed very well but I now have a bucket load of spares for it so will crack on once I have sorted the leaky garage roof and built my work bench

I bought this for £15 back in 1966 as a non-runner. A few gaskets and a set of big end shells and she was up and running!
A man made me an offer that I couldn't refuse (dad said that if I got rid of it, he would sort me out a car!), so it was sold for £55. Add a couple of noughts and double it now! I found it again a couple of years back, just down the road in Thetford. It had been across the pond and back in the meantime!
