Default Nearside headlight failure

Hi guys my nearside front main headlight bulb failed yesterday on my 05 cdti and I have the bulb failure message on the dash. I replaced the bulb today but it made no difference. Side and front spots are fine - just the main headlight that's out. Somebody told me a while ago they'd been upgraded - all I know is it takes an H9 bulb and I didn't have to fiddle round with clips to take it out or put back in. Any advice on where to start?

Problems like this can be due to a break in the headlamp harness where it rubs on a chassis seam. This is on the driver side just behind the screenwash reservoir.

Worth a look if you're getting nowhere. You need to remove the front bumper to check.

as tc says prob defective wiring but dont rule out the new bulb , just because its new! u could always try the new bulb in the other side, and if it dont work u know u have a defective bulb rgds mark

On the plus side I must have made the Guiness Book of Records for the longest bulb change in the history of mankind - take front bumper off, remove / clean up / Vaseline earth points, beef up insulation on some suspect looking wires, test voltage at plugs with multimeter, scratch head and wonder why bulbs aren't illuminated by electrickety, realise I'm being an idiot, swear ... lots, belly-laugh ... lots, change correct bulb, replace bumper, crack open a Heiney
