To be correct we should be grumbling that these folk say things like "would of" or "should of" instead of "would have" or "should have", because they don't seem to mix "of" and "have" willy-nilly; only under certain grammatical conditions.
But, (another word frowned upon at the beginning of a sentence) does it really matter? As long as we understand the message being transmitted, is there really a right and wrong way to send it? I think not.
Living in a culture whose use of language is different to our own I've come to the conclusion that the nit-picking pedantry of my youth is a pointless exercise, and leads only to unnecessary irritation. But, (there he goes again!) I confess that those whose tendency is to carelessly use a split infinitive would of still gotten my goat, if indeed I would of had one to get.
And why do posters on here not break up their posts to make it readable .

Thing is the only way you can learn to read and write English or indeed speak it properly,is if you have a proper (correct) teaching of grammar and the English language.

Drifting away from this will inevitably lead to a form of pidgin language that only local groups can understand, Thus fragmentation and language barriers would result. This is the reason we should all adhere to correct teachings.

Just saying like

Couldn't agree more. Formal language is taught, idioms are learned. Being taught English is being educated to be understood by the world at large.
Colloquialisms and idioms is growing up to be yourself.

I absolutely despair at some of the spelling and grammar that I see on here (and other forums it must be said, it's certainly not limited to this one).

Whilst some may be excused as they're using phones, even they these days have a full "Qwerty" keyboard, so there's really no excuse for doing things like using "u" instead of 'you' or "ur" instead of 'your' (or you're). It's just pure laziness and makes me wonder if I can be bothered to read a post, even if it's a valid opinion I'm likely to dismiss it because of the standard of English used.

When I was at school, I too was subject to a far more disciplined way of learning, especially in English and maths lessons, and mistakes were punished swiftly and usually in front of the whole class, so you tended to try harder not to make them in the first place lest you be hauled, usually by the ear lobe, to the front of the class.

As harsh as that may sound, it meant that every person in that class tried their utmost not to make any mistakes, and that's something that's stayed with me ever since.

Besides which, most modern technology be it phone, tablet or computer comes with built in spell checkers, so there's really no excuse. Although, of course, they can't really help with grammar.

if you only judge people by their spelling or grammer are you being fair, yes i may well be using the wrong fare so my spelling is poor, you judge me by that? Really?
I would have thought judging somone by the way they set out their stall would be better. Are they kind, helpful, trustworth, faithful etc.
I would prefer somone with bad spelling and diction that is helpful, kind, generous etc over someone that is mean but with excellent diction and spelling

As for spell checkers, being dyslexic can mean one still cannot get the correct word, and on this pc, the spell checker does not work.
