We've (or to be more accurate - the wife) has just updated our ancient pc from XP to windows 10.

If you do decide that it's time to update your system - There isn't a free update from XP to 10, but there are loads of ebay listings selling windows 8 licences for around a tenner.

She bought a licence, used it to update to 8, and then immediately used the free update from 8 to 10. I believe the free windows 10 updates are due to end next month.

I much prefer XP, but sometimes you've got to move with the times

I followed clf's original instructions and all went smoothly except, i couldn't find what to press to enter the times in the bios, it turned out to be the plus button in numbers lock.. Once i discovered that all went well..

The delay was due to me going to PCWorld yesterday, only yo find they dont sell the required battery!!!!

So I went to Maplins for one today...

As far as I can tell fitting the new battery has cured all the problems i was getting.... Yayyyy..

Thank you all for your time and help...

That's good to read as soon as you mentioned the out of date certificate errors it was a light bulb moment.
