Simple solution is making it law that every vehicle is fitted with a jamming device which operates when the ignition is swirched on. Fitted on all new cars, up to 3yrs old by recall and at mot for 3 and over. If its tampered with then the car gets crushed.
Harsh, but drastic measures are required. People are dying through idiots looking at a phone when 'driving'.

Who would pay for these parts to be fitted? In a world where people are getting wiser to "Big Brother" how would these installation engineers be vetted? I've an inquisitive and practical mind so these are questions; not personal digs. The real answer here is more visible policing. Obviously the (seems like millions) cameras are not working. A particularly innovative idea was a police force somewhere using an LGV to spot offenders. Look good for a television news feature. Lives and unnecessary delays are caused by this and the only real answer is a very visual deterrent. Cameras don't work.

Right, but that doesn't make a lot of sense. What if say a passenger wants to look at the internet or use it as a satnav or post on here?

Record all calls to and from vehicles, and make them hugely expensive... £5,000 a pop unless you can justify the call innit....
... Prob is.. even talking to passengers is a distraction, as are Sat-navs, so where do we stop... ... |

What's more annoying than listening to half a strangers conversation on a bus...

I'm afraid I'll disagree with you on that score, a distraction to your concentration is a distraction however or whatever form it takes. I do however believe that idiots trying to control a car whilst texting, reading emails, playing games or trying to operate a mobile device are an accident waiting to happen .

I believe and many others, including ROSPA, and the law itself that police can still stop, penalise/fine you if they think you’re distracted and not in control of your vehicle even when using Handsfree. |

If your not driving with due care and attention for whatever reason then I would hope that the Police would indeed pull you over and discuss the manner of your driving and deal with it appropriately. I think on that we can all agree.
