Success!
I now have one working FBH system. Thanks HarryM1BYT for your help and your "how to".
All tests out ok now. I was a bit worried when it went through its shutdown sequence that the fan was just going to carry on running, but it works perfectly.
I like your idea about having a separate tank, running it on red diesel and the manual switch method with diagnostic LED's - maybe a summer job.

Thanks

I collected pretty much all of the information, tips and etc.. into one article. The article is linked to below and includes the simple modification I worked out for a tell tale LED. The later is near the bottom of the article.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

thanks a lot. very helpful article!
The ELMOS 10026B is available here actually: http://www.ebay.de/itm/280762138555

In my unit the N-Fet for the fan also failed, burnt through.
Hope after replacing the Kbus transceiver, the 4k7 & the Fet the unit will continue working
