The first thing to check with any Rover k-series is if you have enough water in the cooling system!
That you do with a stone cold engine. Check the level in the expansion tank.

And check often. Chances are you have a leak in the cooling system, there are a number of favourite spots.

The fan can be checked by switching the A/C on, which should bring the fan on in slow mode.

Hi Phil.
Make sure the A/C is off and press the demist this should show if fan is working on slow speed, also look through the grill to see if you have a 2 speed fan with resistor or a three wire two speed fan without the silver resistor.

If 2 speed with resistor all you need to do is change the resistor which you could do at the nano on the 21st or if you cant wait get your self over to mine and i will help you if we can get a dry day or weekend today would have been great but lets not worry to much about that at the moment.

Just to make sure the OP understands what I am saying. Swithcing the A/C on, is the same as using the demist button.
The demist button aims to remove maximum moisture from the front screen, and it does that by using the A/C cooling to dry out the air first (cold air can contain less moisture than warm air, so cooling it will make water condensate and drain off), and then heat the air again, before it is blown up over the screen.

So what Arctic is saying is the same as I am, switch the A/C on.
