Went out Solo yesterday for the first time,
I'm glad my neighbour was on hand when I got back to the moorings as it was quite windy and I was struggling to get alongside our mooring and grab the lines whilst keeping the boat still. He saw I was having difficulties and pulled me in Practice makes perfect they say Anyhow, I posted a few photos from yesterday up in the photography corner here if you want to have a look http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...57#post2337457 Ros is coming with me this Sunday and I'm hoping we may get off the river and onto one of the Broads proper

Solo boating does bring it's demands.
Couple of tips, when approaching your mooring always be mindful and fully aware on the winds direction. Wind is your friend or your enemy ( you know all about wind) Best is when wind is blowing your craft away from bank. It acts as your brakes and allows you to approach in a purposeful manner. If the wind is blowing you towards the bank then approach really slowly or even out of gear. If solo have your bow rope safely secured and led aft into your cockpit and to hand. Likewise ensure both stern ropes are to hand and ready to go. One thing to remember is that boats are actually much easier to handle at close quarters with your ropes. It's good fun and satisfying when you get it right. Lastly all outboard powered boats are a pig to handle slowly and when mooring. You have no rudder as such so all steerage is of the powered variety. Also remember stern on mooring is not particularly recommended with outboards You will soon pick it up and as you are finding fellow boaters are a helpful lot! |

Congratulations Jeff on your new purchase, I'm abit envious to say the least.
I've had a soft spot for boating for many years now, more so Yachts. I used to deal with Sunseeker (Poole Dorset) some years ago, such an amazing place to see these beauties built. We often visit Mudeford and Christchurch Quay, two beautiful places right on our doorstep, the closest I have come to buying a yacht is my lovely old style large model yacht that sits in the lounge. I can smell the ocean calling... |

That looks like Potter Heigham. Had many a happy hour spent there and in lathams. Wonder if Lathams is still there, it used to have a massive fishing tackle shop. Got some time off at the end of August, feel a daytrip coming on
