Default Problem with steering wheel audio contols

Bit of a strange one this.......
ZT with Sony unit and the controls on the steering wheel don't work. Easy cause, no adaptor unit fitted.

So I'v fitted a Kenwood KDC 4024,which is the CD equivilant of the factory fit 394.

So expecting the controls to now work ( I have assumed that this unit has the infra red like the factory fit one) it works of a fashion.

Depending on which button you press, it activates a different facility on the radio. If you operate the volume, it changes channel and so on.

I thought at first that the buttons were sticking, so striped, cleaned and lubed, still the same. Fitted another set, still the same.

I've come to the conclusion that it's either the cold that's screwed it up, or the infra red control box is faulty....

Any other thoughts ???????????????

David, have you had the eyebrow off and tried it ? . Mine was not working with the steering wheel controls, i took the eyebrow off and the ir eye was not in its little holder in the eyebrow. Stuck it back in the hole with a bit of tape and it works fine now, although I think I have it a bit further through than it is supposed to be, but cannot be seen.

Had a spare hour to try and get the controls working....had the dash out....no obvious signs of anything disconnected.....

The IR lead is hard wired so not sure what to do next...

Tried swapping head unit and steering wheel conrols.......still nothing.

Anyone any ideas how to test the IR sensor....RAVE shows nothing, and the box isn't available seperately as it's hardwired into the loom.

Think I may have found 2 problems, Blue IR sensor has broken off, and pin 2 of the rotary coupler on the steering wheel has no continuity between both connectors.
