CD Changer - no volume?!?
My CD Changer seems to work fine - the CDs all get 'played' - I have the HiLine system, with CD Changer in the glovebox.
However, I get no volume coming out of the speakers in CD mode. All other audio functions work fine - radio / TV. The CD seems to play through all of the tracks - its just there is no volume/sound!! Anybody have any idea what this could be? |

The first place to start looking is in the boot. Lift off the black plastic cover which shields the boot latch recess, then unscrew the 4 plastic screws holding the lower cover in place and remove to reveal the Radio tuner in the spare wheel well (it's the silver unit to the right).
This can be lifted up and out of it's bracket, and will have a large 17 pin black connector block attached to it's rear. If you slide the end of a screwdriver into the little slot and prize up, you'll be able to then pull off the whole connector. Once done, check the two small 10 pin mini connectors nestled underneath the 17 pin part. One connector is Black, the other white. This is where the audio signals are fed into the radio tuner. One connector takes care of the Sat Nav audio instructions & cassette sound (has 6 wires), the other supplies sound from the CD Changer from the glovebox.( has 5 wires) I think, either the CD connector is not making good contact, or has become coroded by water (check for any signs of a puddle), or has a loose wire in a couple of the pins. The best thing to do if all looks O.K is to re-seat these two 10 pin connectors. Using a small screwdriver, poke the bottom legs of the Blue U clip and pull it up and out to release the black and white CD & Tape Changer plugs, see below. Then put them back in and reverse the procedure. Refit the 17 pin block back onto the tuner by offering it back up to the radios pins, and pushing back down the sliding black plastic clamp you lifted with the screwdriver at the start. Hopefully this may have made the contacts secure again, and you'll get the CD sound back. |
