Default BW 17 Pin Connector

Following on from Les and his Sat Nav Problems, I need to dismantle the 17 pin connector.

I've got the BMW manual showing the tool, but I can't work out if it slides over the pin or goes inside the pin to release in from the housing.

Any suggestions ?

Have look here:

This guy gives an ID of 4.00mm and OD 4.25mm so it must go over the pin.

It must go over the pin to pull in the barbs thus allowing you to remove it.
According to the thread above.

The female ones just slide down the outside. Supposed to just push out, did couple on mine, bit of a pig to get out. Lot of wiggling and jiggling.

The connector in Les's boot is very manky and broken so that's 17 to take out, plus the 17 to take out of the connector I salvaged.

At least with the dimensions, I can try and get a tool made up....

It's the connector that goes into the tuner in the wheel well...I've got the connector off another car, just can't get the pins out to change it....

Soldering iron, side cutters and heat shrink

Joking apart you can buy the tool for "de barbing" the connectors.Failing using the correct tool, use a safety pin and a jiggle should sort it.

There's no way I'm cutting and sleeving 17 wires whilst bent over in the boot......FACT...(Les get down graded to a Symphony before that happens )

Tried the pin trick, but alas no joy.

Might pop into BMW to get the price of the tool...
