Default balls and brass moneky things

At my daughters doing DIY and her husband has dug holes for the concrete fence posts.

Not damaged it but he's hit electric mains cable feed to the house. What a place to put a mains cable, right where a fence between properties would go. Going to have to enlarge the holes and move the posts over.
Cable is not deep enough to go over the top of it.
That's a few inches off the width of their drive they are going to have to lose as we cant put the posts the other side due to a concrete path belonging to the neighbour.

I don't even want to touch some of the electrics until the mains supply has been cut off at the meter. I've removed fuse from the fuse holder and put the holder back in, I'd like to remove the cable but no thanks, not until power cut off...scary.

Also found a number of water leaks, none major but just time consuming to repair.

Taking the main fuse out isn't going to cut the power in the cable if it is the supply to the house. The only way to make that cable safe is to turn off the power at the distribution box somewhere up the road and that would cut off everyone in the street!

If it is the supply to the house, it belongs to the electricity board and is their problem, get them to fix it, they can't charge you because it's their side of the meter.

If it's the supply to a shed or garage that's a different kettle of fish and you can turn it off at the fuse box and mess about with it to your heart's content................ as long as you have an electricians ticket.

My advice is to get a proper sparky to sort it.

Mick,
Its not the mains feed cable. These cables (tails) run from the meter to the shower fuse box. This is a stand alone "fuse box", the main fuse box is seperate with its own tails. I'm pretty sure removing the fuse will leave the shower which is fed by this single unit dead. I don't want to touch these tails as I know they will be live.
