That result doesn't reassure me at all; we may all moan and groan about our politicians but surely no-one can see a similarity with Trump?

Maybe the US got Trump as President because Americans were as fed up with their politicians as we are of ours?

Now he’s in a good mood perhaps we will get a really good deal on the chlorinated chickens, in the upcoming trade talks.
KFC will never taste the same!

These obvious problems are hiding a bigger one. They all add up to a damning of reputations of all the other worthys, yes, there are some, and you are left with an electorate full of disgust. Not unlike our very own expenses scandal a few years ago.

There are many of his subordinates who are lumped in with him because of collegiate responsibility and guilt by association. He only got elected because of a malaise attaching to Hilary by association with Bill. Hardly a recommendation.

Actually, it is a model thread of current affairs that have impact on all our well-being and an example of discussion that produces reasoned debate. Just as it should be. Sailing close to the wind is a sailor's delight as long as the wind does not become a gale.

It was not my intention to make a “political” thread - but I realise I strayed into those murky waters with my comment re Americans being as fed up as we are with those who rule them such that they vote for a wild card

Quite right too. It's the core subject of P... that's the problem. The rest is political (small 'p') in that it's about people and their attitudes to each other - even if they do (or do not) hold office. In that sense it's about social mores and what is acceptable behaviour so that philosophies are irrelevant and bandwagons don't trundle. Long live the republic. Or monarchy.
