To steel seal or not to steel seal
Just putting it out there.
Would it be a good idea or a bad idea to add steel seal to a cooling system that doesn't have head gasket failure so that it could start working straight away if a failure started to develop. I accept I might not fully understand how this product works. Thanks in advance for your comments Peter Last edited by Lotaskin; 22nd June 2017 at 14:27.. |

K seal totally fried my cooling system and head, cant see this stuff being much different? If it goes, get it done right, and until then just enjoy it. (I didn't put it in my car, previous owner did)

When my cambelt needed changing, I just did the whole head off, new gaskets, water pump, tensioners, head bolts etc. There's not a lot more work or expense (given the peace of mind) involved and it just puts your mind at rest for at least six years at my mileage rates!
Sealants? No!

From what I understand, and in my opinion, Steel seal is the best of the last resort options.
I personally would only consider using it if I'd attempted all the other options considered reasonable in terms of economical repairs in relation to the value of my car to me. I suppose if a repair like replacing V6 head gaskets, or liner leak, I would probably use it. |
