Question Navigation System - Info needed please

I bought an 05 plate 2.0 CDTi 75 Conn SE last week and very pleased with it I am too.
Whilst familiarising my self with the car I noticed a button between the heated seat buttons with an [i] on it. The manual that came with the car, (a combined service and user guide) does not mention this button. So today whilst driving home from London, I pressed it and could hear some kind of message very quietly, then I pressed it and held it in and lo and behold, i was talking to a woman somewhere although the volume was too low to hear anything clearly. I was astonished - then lots of questions came to mind.

1, how come i'm talking to someone somewhere?
2, who is it?
3, how do i turn up the volume?
4, is there a user guide for whatever this is?
5, wheres the microphone?
6, is it some kind of built in phone?

My car is without any sort of SatNav or Route display, but I also noticed that there was a beeping sound when driving on the M42 through the variable speed control section. Info needed please

What exactly is it that I've got in my car?

Cheers

AndyG

The devil possessed

I believe you have lo-line navigation. I thought there was a subscription charge, but if you're not paying anything

Can't advise on the volume etc I'm afraid...

If you have that button it is generally for the subscribed service were you tell them where you want to go & they tell you how to get there diversions etc included. Very Good but expensive I don't subscribe any more as I have the High Line & the Traffic Master Installed on mine plus the free version of advance warnings. See here about subscribed service and other details: http://www.trafficmaster.co.uk/

Many thanks for your comments.

I wonder if the previous owner subscribed to the service?

I'd still like to see a user guide if anyone has a copy they could reproduce. I'll gladly pay for the P&P etc.

In the Facelift Customer Handbook Page 163 gives operational details & the Web Site will give you the Monthly/Yearly premiums payable. There should also be a Traficmaster Smartnav Instruction Manual (small) generally in Leather Customer Folder Somewhere, I will try to find mine and do you a PDF file but it won't be till next week Im afraid as Im not at home at the moment, let us know if you have no joy. You should also have a Microphone & speaker fitted for this. Drop previous owner a line they may still have it if it is missing.

John - if the subscription service involves a two-way conversation, how does the car transmit to the Trafficmaster folk?

Hi

Various options, main one is by talking through the Installed Microphone giving your planned destination then your route is plotted and directions given via the installed unit as you drive, you can also have a display on the upper display unit in speedo display if you have highline sat Nav system I believe. I just had the verbal directions, if you go off course the switch yellow light starts flashing and will eventually reroute.
