I think he's probably genuine but there are so many bidders on this that I'm loathe to pee them all off by ending early. Plus anything could happen price wise - it could go over £300, there again it might not.

Jules - that card & software is ok for offline editing but it's nowhere near good enough for a proper online edit.* Plus it won't do High Definition.
*A full blown broadcast standard edit suite is very big bucks - £1/2 million or so with all the associated machinery. Last edited by Simon W; 3rd April 2008 at 01:11.. |

as regards peeing them off- they should show the colour of their money instead of snipering in the last 20 seconds

Good point Steve. I still can't decide whether to end early though! I could always wait and see what the American does next. It's only 7.40am there at the mo.

Just remember that if you end the auction early for him and he pays by Paypal you won't have any protection against a chargeback because it will be an 'off eBay' deal...
(99% certain about that, perhaps someone else will confirm?) |

What's a chargeback TF?
(Auction now at £195). BTW. Another chap from Australia sent a fleabay message asking if I would ship to Oz and what the postage would be. I sent him a message back saying 'yes' and I'd find out about the postage. So I went off, weighed the gizmo, calculated the postage via Royal Mail, then tried to send a second message with the cost & delivery times etc. Lo and behold fleabay pops up a page saying: 'Attention! We have determined that you have tried to contact a member with whom you are not currently involved in an open transaction....etc'. I know that you brainless fleabay idiots. The man asked me a question and I'm trying to answer him. Who designs this rubbish and do they get paid for it? Last edited by Simon W; 3rd April 2008 at 01:02.. |

It depends how the seller from OZ asked you the question.
He may have asked through the "contact member" link which will bring up that red message. (as it's not associated with any particular item for sale) If he used the "email seller" link on your actual listing, this should not bring up any warnings. Some buyers just ask questions to get your email address. But this can be hidden if you wish. Hope this helps Simon

I think he used the 'contact member' option Jules. He's not selling anything himself so there was no way of contacting him without the silly warning message.
Actually he's just sent another message asking for costs so I've responded. Parcelforce want £76 or £98 (!!) to get this thing to Oz (3.6 kilos or 4.5 when packed) so that probably rules him out anyway. |

To original question, I'd be inclined to say "No". I was in a simillar position the other week and I basically said that it "wasn't fair on genuine bidders". The item subsequently went over his offer - and he didn't bid once...
